What Makes A Good Radio Ad?
By owner/partner: Duane Christensen
First off... I have to give full credit for Results Radio in Sioux Falls for my Radio Advertising education. And some of these ads below were produced while I was working there. But all were written and directed by me... or even fully edited and produced by me. I just love the power of sound in advertising, and I'm picky about how my radio commercials turn out.
So, what does make for a good radio ad? Well, what's your definition of good? It could be very entertaining, it could be dramatic, maybe kind of sad, it could be funny, it could be sincere, etc. OR... maybe your idea of a good radio ad is that it tells people everything you do, everything you sell, your phone number, your website, and it also tells people that you're the best in some way. Or that your service is "second to none"!
Please don't cram everything into one radio ad. You'll be wasting your money. Here's what good radio ads should do...
Each radio ad should tell a story. Each radio ad should make one point and make it very clear. Each radio ad should move people closer to doing business with the advertiser. Each one should cause a listener to trust that advertising business just a little bit more. But learning how to do that well... took me at least 10 years of writing radio commercials for my clients.
Listen to some of these sample radio commercials below, and then, you'll get a better feel for what kinds of ads actually work... and bring a good return on investment.
