No... you don't need to know Calculus. Phew!
Marketing and advertising success (whether it's Radio, TV, Internet, Print, Social Media, Billboards, Direct Mail, your Website, Google Ads, or any other way you try to get more people to find you and buy from you) is extremely dependent on WORDS. The right words. Organized the right way. But marketing words also must motivate and inspire. Those words need to give your business a better chance of being chosen over one of your competitors. The words used will help attract buyers...but also convert them into customers. Have I mentioned that I love to write? I love to write marketing content that makes a difference. I love to use words and stories that cut through all the marketing clutter that's hurled at people every day.
Bottom line: Words, and the way you use words in any kind of communication, can be the BIG DIFFERENCE MAKER. And most marketing people don't understand that. It's not just about being on TV, being on the radio, being in a magazine, being online, or having a banner with your logo on it hung up at your favorite local sports complex. It's about making an IMPACT there. Or wherever you choose to be.
Additional Marketing Pep Talk...
There is no magic potion that will make you an overnight success. The better you surprise your customers with great service, the easier it will be for you to grow. If you have internal problems of any kind, I would suggest you fix those first before investing in much marketing. Of course, every small business has their share of problems from time to time, but if there is something big that you know needs to be remedied, any paid marketing or advertising will not make it go away.
You're trying to make a buck, right? And you're trying to sculpt a successful and reputable business? Then, you need to be conscious of the world around you and especially your competition. Change can be scary, but your competition is always clawing and scratching to take YOUR customers. Your competitors are ALWAYS changing. They're upgrading or hiring some new superstar. So, you have to know what's going on in that world.
